Mr. President:
I am writing to you with great concern over the revelations that the Chinese Communist Party is operating a network of concentration camps throughout China, where Falun Gong practitioners are being imprisoned, and their organs harvested, often while they are still alive. The organs are then sold on the lucrative black market. After the organs are extracted, the bodies are immediately disposed of in an on-site crematorium.
Reports as yet still being uncovered on April 6, 2006, indicate a sudden increase in the number of transplant operations in Tianjin. According to the reports, transplant hospitals in China are now telling patients to "come in quickly" to get transplants. Patients are told that matching organs can be found at this time in as short as one or two days. The hospitals also say that, "it will be difficult [to get transplants] after this batch of organs are used up."
Mr. President, it doesn't take much imagination to suspect that this sudden availability of organs is part of a plan by the Chinese regime to hide all evidence of the deathcamps—by slaughtering the witnesses.
These reports first came to light in early March, through a Chinese investigative journalist. Since his initial revelations of a single deathcamp, two more witnesses have reported even more horrifying allegations.
It is worthwhile to note that none of these witnesses had any affiliation with the practice of Falun Gong- their consciences could simply no longer allow them to remain silent.
One of the witnesses, a self-identified veteran military doctor, stated that captive Falun Gong adherents are shipped in sealed freight trains to secret concentration camp-like facilities that are staffed by surgeons and equipped with crematoriums to dispose of the corpses and other evidence. The doctor reports: "I witnessed a specially-dispatched freight train transferring over 7,000 people in a trip from Tianjin city to the Jilin area. It ran at night, guarded by Chinese soldiers. Everyone on board was handcuffed to specially designed handrails atop the ceiling..."
He says there are about 36 such camps in China with the three largest in the northeastern provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning. The largest camp, codenamed "672-S," is said to hold over 120,000 people, including Falun Gong and other prisoners of conscience.
No detainees are known to have left the concentration camp alive.
Mr. President, as a deeply religious man, I am sure you are repulsed and astounded by these revelations. It is incomprehensible to anyone of good conscience that such facilities and horrible practices would exist in the 21st century. Nonetheless, they have been confirmed by the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong, a non-profit investigative body based in the U.S. WOIPFLG has found that organs from Falun Gong practitioners were used for transplant in provinces and cities such as Henan, Shandong, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, Tianjin, Liaoning, Hunan, Hubei, and perhaps others; they are still being made available on demand.
Writing about the Sujiatun concentration camp in the March 30 edition of the National Review Online, managing editor Jay Nordlinger wrote:
"No one should bet that Sujiatun will penetrate the world's consciousness. Governments everywhere are keen on smooth relations with the PRC; media, even in free countries, seem to want to help them. The reluctance of major newspapers and TV networks to report on atrocities in China is a sad subject.
"And I recall what Robert Conquest, the great analyst of totalitarianism, once told me: The world has seldom wanted to believe witnesses. Ten, 20, or 30 years later, maybe, but rarely sooner."
In your upcoming meeting with President Hu, you have the rare opportunity to challenge the barbaric acts of a totalitarian government now, not in 10, 20 or 30 years. Your leadership in this regard could pave the way for greater awareness and worldwide calls for an independent investigation of Chinese concentration camps before thousands more Falun Gong practitioners lose their lives to the persecution. Friends of Falun Gong strongly urges you to take that bold and humane step. Please publicly renounce the Chinese government’s persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
