FoFG Applauds U.S. State Dept’s Call to Release Chinese Lawyer Wang Quanzhang

On April 20, the U.S. State Department called for the release of jailed Chinese human rights lawyer Wang Quanzhang. Wang was jailed as part of a sweep of approximately 300 human rights lawyers that began in 2015. Wang was sentenced in a closed hearing on Dec. 26, 2018 to four and a half years in jail.

The Chinese communist regime has been targeting members of the legal community who support human rights by representing defendants of persecuted minorities. Among those Wang represented were practitioners of Falun Gong, a spiritual practice that has been persecuted since July 1999.

Human rights observers are concerned for his physical and mental health. Friends of Falun Gong joins them in their concern and supports international efforts to bring about the safe release of Wang and other Chinese human rights lawyers.
